This disease, which can be caused by many factors, has many symptoms. This disease requires immediate medical treatment. This disease occurs when pancreatic enzymes (especially trypsin) needed for digestion become active in the pancreas instead of being activated in the small intestine. It can be a sudden, severe disease that occurs within a few days (acute pancreatitis) or a chronic disease that occurs over many years (chronic pancreatitis).
